Doula Brittany's Patient's Story - 4
I was very nervous and overwhelmed about delivering my first baby, and the COVID pandemic made my anxiety even higher. My family lives in Florida and could not travel to be with me because of COVID, and so my boyfriend was my only support that I had, and if he were to get sick, I would be alone. Knowing that Brittany would be by my side as my support in case of the worst-case scenario made me feel so much more at ease in the weeks leading up to my delivery.
When I delivered, I was so grateful to have Brittany there. She was very knowledgeable about the delivery process and made sure I was informed about each step. I had to push for about 3 hours, and Brittany helped with my breathing, encouraging my hard work, and making sure I was in comfortable effective positions. After arrest of descent, I ended up having to have a C-section birth. I was very overwhelmed after a long labor and scared of a surgery, but Brittany was there to talk me through things and help me get focused and calm. During the surgery, I was very nauseous and had bad tremors, but she stayed with me, wiping my forehead and helping me through it. This gave my boyfriend the opportunity to go over to the baby right when he was delivered, while Brittany stayed with me to help calm me down. She was also able to take some really great photos to capture baby's first moments!
After the surgery, Brittany helped us in getting settled with the new baby. By the time she left, we were calm, relaxed, and grateful to have a healthy baby boy. My boyfriend and I are so happy we chose Brittany, and if we have more children in the future, we are sure to contact her again!
