An arm lift is a surgical procedure that reshapes the under portion of the upper arm, from the underarm region to the elbow.
Arm lifts are performed on both men and women whose elasticity is lost in the skin and underlying tissue of the upper arm. Arm lifts cannot correct weakened muscle, but are used generally with individuals who cannot correct this condition with exercise. Individuals who have undergone a significant weight loss are also good candidates as the skin has lost the ability to retract.
The purpose of the arm lift is twofold:
- Reduce excess sagging skin that droops downward when the arm is extended away from the body
- Tighten and smooth the underlying supportive tissue that defines the shape of the upper arm
In addition, any other pockets of fat in the upper arm area may be reduced through brachioplasty, most commonly in conjunction with liposuction techniques.
