How Do I Know if I'm a Candidate for Genetic Counseling?
Only about 5-10 percent of all cancers are inherited, but individuals who inherit an abnormal gene have a greater chance of developing particular types of cancers within their lifetime and at a younger age. If you have a history of cancer in your family, discuss with your doctor whether you may benefit from genetic counseling to educate you about your risk of developing certain cancers.
Our partners at Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers can provide the expertise to help you understand how your familial history of cancer may indicate the potential for developing cancer.
