Understanding Fertility Challenges Affecting Women

Infertility is defined as the inability to get pregnant after one year of unprotected intercourse. According to the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, approximately 30-40% of infertility diagnoses are related to female infertility. Many factors can cause female infertility, including:

  • Maternal age
  • Damaged fallopian tubes
  • Hormone disorders
  • Cervical conditions
  • Ovulation disorder

To help discover the cause of female infertility, several tests may be ordered by your care provider, including blood tests and biopsies of the uterus and cervix. Treatments range from medication to surgery and may include intrauterine insemination and in vitro fertilization (IVF).
