Gestational Diabetes Education
The Rose Diabetes Center offers a 3-part educational series for mothers with gestational diabetes.
The first session is a one-hour class, offered on an individual time frame, and topics discussed include:
- Consistent carbohydrate meal planning
- Measuring blood glucose with a glucometer
- Understanding target blood sugar levels before and after meals
- Keeping records for the physician
The second class is a one-hour follow up schedule one or two weeks after the first class to review blood sugar and meal intake records, and to make any needed adjustments. The second session is typically 30 to 45 minutes and reviews the above information.
The third and final class is a post-partum session (after baby arrives) designed to take actions possible to reduce the risk of Type 2 Diabetes through active lifestyle, meal plan management and weight loss strategies. The third session is typically 30 minutes and continues to discuss the topics above.
