Michael A Snyder, MD

Bariatric Surgery
Michael Snyder, MD, FACS, FASMBS, is the Medical Director of the Bariatric Surgery Center at Rose Medical Center. He has performed more than 6,000 bariatric surgical procedures, and his bariatric surgery program is the most comprehensive and highest volume program in the region and amongst the largest in the country. His interest in bariatric surgery is based on his knowledge that morbid obesity is one of the essential, yet vastly ignored diseases physicians are exposed to every day. Dr. Snyder and his expert are ready to help with your weight loss goals. Dr. Snyder's weight loss surgery training is both comprehensive and methodical. He believes that, in the appropriate patient, the surgical treatment of morbid obesity is the essential therapy that can cure a myriad of ills. He is the most experienced bariatric surgeon in the region, and has treated a variety of patients from across the United States and overseas. Experience and surgical volume are critical predictors of safety and success in bariatric and laparoscopic surgical care, and Dr. Snyder's success in both is unparalleled. He first became interested in bariatric surgery during his residency at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, OR. In August 2000, he sought out and attended an American Society for Bariatric Surgery certified preceptorship in Eugene, Ore. in order to learn from one of the giants in the field, Dr. Latham Flanagan, Jr.. He then returned to Colorado to establish the Denver Center for Bariatric Surgery. Already an accomplished laparoscopic general surgeon and a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, Dr. Snyder felt his bariatric surgery program was prepared to take the next step. To further expand his expertise, he traveled to San Diego, Calif. to train with the internationally recognized leader of the laparoscopic bariatric surgery field, Dr. Alan Wittgrove.Dr. Snyder's next advancement in the bariatric realm was the addition of the LapBand to his armamentarium in the treatment of morbid obesity, a process on which he was educated in 2001. He has done well over 2,000 restrictive gastric bands. In 2006, his Sleeve program took off, after Dr. Snyder did additional training at the Cleveland Clinic in Florida. He now is performing more than 150+ sleeves per year and is a recognized leader in this area of bariatric surgery training surgeons from around the U.S. for Ethicon. The most challenging surgical cases are revisions and many surgeons avoid taking on such cases. (These include: Band revisions; converting Bands, Sleeves, VBG's, and Nissens to alternative procedures; re-making bypasses to correct restriction and pouch size; and fixing complications.) Dr. Snyder and his team have a special interest in getting these patients back on track and their experience in this realm is unparalleled in the region. Dr. Snyder has found his patients results are dramatic ranging from life changing to life saving, and appreciates and is humbled by the honor and responsibility of caring for his patients who are struggling with this often debilitating condition. Dr. Snyder is also an internationally published author of Full: A Life Without Dieting and is an active member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He works to help those who are not candidates for weight loss surgery with the new ORBERA Intragastric Balloon non-surgical weight loss system, a revolutionary weight loss product that combines comprehensive nutritional coaching and support with a non-permanent, same-day outpatient balloon procedure. Dr. Snyder and his endoscopy partner, Dr. Dan Seigel, are the first in the region to perform the Intragastric Balloon procedure for effective weight loss management, and has unmatched expertise in the program For more information about the Denver Center for Bariatric Surgery, Dr. Michael Snyder or any of his caring team, we encourage you to fill out our contact form or make an appointment by calling us at 303-280-0900.
