Hidden Scar Breast Cancer Surgery

Visible scars are a painful reminder of what has already been the painful experience of breast cancer. That’s why the Rose surgical team is proud to offer the Hidden Scar™ Breast Cancer Surgery program, an advanced approach to breast cancer surgery resulting in minimized visible scarring.

The Hidden Scar surgical approach uses a single incision made in inconspicuous areas to minimize visible scarring. By utilizing this approach, surgeons are able to preserve a natural-looking breast by sparing the nipple, areola and surrounding tissue. Patients who undergo this approach are also at no higher risk of recurrence than patients who undergo any other type of technique.

Dr. Barbara Schwartzberg and Dr. Stephanie Miller and their practice are the only group in Colorado performing this surgery. It effectively treats cancer while preserving the natural shape of the breast, leaving no visible reminders behind.

What is Hidden Scar™ Breast Cancer Surgery?

Hidden Scar™ Breast Cancer Surgery is an advanced surgical approach where cancerous tissue is removed through a single incision made in an inconspicuous area, resulting in less visible scarring.

What are the benefits of Hidden Scar™ Breast Cancer Surgery?

Surgeons can perform breast cancer procedures with better safety, efficiency, and precision - while optimizing clinical and aesthetic outcomes for patients. This advanced surgical approach leaves no visible reminder behind, which can have a positive impact on the patient’s psychological and emotional recovery.

In which breast cancer surgeries can the Hidden Scar approach be used?

Hidden Scar™ Breast Cancer Surgery can be used in:

  • Nipple sparing mastectomies, which remove all of the underlying breast tissue while keeping the breast skin and nipple area intact.
  • Lumpectomies (breast conserving surgery), in which the tumor and a small area of surrounding healthy breast tissue are removed while saving the majority of the breast.

Who is a candidate for Hidden Scar™ Breast Cancer Surgery?

Qualification depends on a patient’s tumor size and location, breast shape and size, and the surgeon’s training. Hidden Scar™ Breast Cancer Surgery may be appropriate for a wide range of breast cancer patients undergoing nipple sparing mastectomy or lumpectomy (breast conserving surgery) procedures
